Heat Pipes for Educational Facilities

Energy Recovery Heat Pipes are the Product of Choice at a University Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

Energy Recovery

A major university in Washington, DC recently began construction of a state-of-the-art laboratory building to help meet the growing demands for larger laboratory spaces seen across the science disciplines. During the design phase, engineers looked at energy recovery options that could utilize the lab’s exhaust air to precool the outside air during summer and preheat the air during winter......

Central Indiana Public School Replaces Heat Wheels With Energy Recovery Heat Pipes

Energy Recovery & Dehumidification

When a public school in central Indiana looked to replace its inoperable heat wheels, it decided to look at alternate energy recovery technologies. HPT’s local representative, Clay Davis of Validated Custom Solutions, worked closely with the school and its maintenance technicians to offer a reliable, cost-effective replacement. Besides future maintenance requirements, the ability to easily retrofit the AHUs was also important. The new energy recovery solution would have to be compact and customized in order to allow for trouble-free installation.

University in New England Enhances Chilled Beam System with Wrap Around Heat Pipes

Dehumidification

When a University in New England decided to build a new facility – intended to integrate three programs from three separate colleges within a single building – they opted for chilled beam systems in all their classrooms to reduce overall energy consumption. A Dedicated Outside Air System (DOAS) is utilized to deliver fresh air to all the chilled beams in these rooms.

College in Maryland – Science Center

Energy Recovery

When planning a new Science Building in Maryland, this college placed a heavy emphasis on optimizing energy savings, but also mindful of first costs. Energy recovery in the Maryland climate is a no brainer, but cross-contamination between laboratories and other zones in the building was a concern. HPT offered the passive split energy recovery heat pipe solution, in which this system has the unique ability to transfer heat between non-adjacent air streams without the need for a pump. Download this case study to learn more about how two large split energy recovery heat pipes (HRM-V™) saved the college an estimated $70,000 annually!

Major Florida University – Pathogen Research Facility

Dehumidification and Energy Recovery

When designing a new pathogen research facility, engineers faced a challenging problem: creating a comfortable atmosphere by controlling humidity and temperature, and providing efficient energy recovery while preventing cross-contamination in this sensitive environment. HPT offered two solutions for this application. One being our split passive dehumidification heat pipe (DHP-V™), which wraps around the cooling coil to provide precool/reheat with modulating controllability. The second solution offered was our split passive energy recovery heat pipe (HRM-V™) that recovers energy from exhaust to the supply, non-adjacent air stream. Download this case study to learn more about how these two systems, saved the college an estimated $60,000 annually!
